Transitioning from recovery focus to base focus. Today is the second day and my first swim session. I was planning on doing 1 hour of laps, but due to my relaxed effort to stay in zone 2 and changing my stroke strategy to incorporated more gliding, I found myself with plenty of gas in the tank at the end. So, I kept going for another hour. When it came to the end, I felt like I could keep going for yet another hour, but I had a commitment this morning, that I could not miss. I swam a couple fast laps as a finisher before exiting the pool. I wonder how long I could have swam comfortably for?
One day, I will have to answer that mystery.
I did not track my laps during this swim, but I can extrapolate from previous swims. It normally takes me 40 minutes to swim 1 mile. Dividing 2 hours (120 minutes) by 40 = 3 miles, plus the extra hard laps at the end and we’ll call it an even 5km (3.1 miles).
New Personal Best! I don’t think I’ve ever swam that far in one swim before and I really enjoyed it.
